Planning

Construction planning plays a fundamental and challenging role in the management and execution of each Woh Hup project. From the choice of technology, the definition of work tasks, the estimation of the required resources and durations for individual tasks, to the identification of any interactions amongst the different work tasks, our planners offer highly regarded expertise in the delivery of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solutions which are planned with logistical support to ensure that milestones are achieved.

Engineering Design Management

Designing and building projects and alternative design schemes are managed through our team of dedicated professional engineers based in our technical department.

During the engineering design process, needs and problems are identified and alternative solutions are found through in-depth research and analysis. Design briefs and conceptual layouts are discussed with the client's representative to determine project budgets and preferred material and equipment to be used with the aim to establishing and maintaining cost effective value engineering procedures and processes to meet the client’s needs. Supported by the use of engineering programmes, the EPC approach adopted in the execution of subsequent works and activities significantly enhances synergy and thus ensures timely project delivery.

Procurement

At the beginning of each project, a procurement schedule is prepared for all manner of materials, equipment and subcontract services to be outsourced. Great care is taken in selecting the right supplier/subcontractor for the job.

Woh Hup’s procurement team ascertains the ability of each supplier/subcontractor to comply with both project specifications and schedule demands by means of a meticulous evaluation procedure, as well as their current and past performances. In addition, the procurement team, in conjunction with the Site Construction Manager, coordinates vendor inspections and the release of materials.

Safety and Environmental Policy

Woh Hup’s dedication and commitment to improving and maintaining high safety standards in our operations are exemplified by the Company’s OHSAS 18001 certification in 2000 by BCA for its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System as well as the BOWEC ISO 14001 award in year 2000.

Woh Hup’s OHS policy emphasises concentric management of the system where everyone involved in a project bears responsibility for its effective implementation. To continuously improve safety, Woh Hup places strong emphasis in safety training to equip our employees at all levels with the knowledge, skills and attitude to achieve good safety standards.

Quality Assurance

Woh Hup is continuously looking into enhancing its features and characteristics of services to improve the efficiency and quality of our projects. The Company continues to strive and meet the requirements of the industry by utilising a quality system that is applied to all activities including overall project control, management, planning, engineering, procurement, inspection & testing and commissioning.

The quality system complies with ISO 9001:2000 standards and was the first quality system to be certified in Singapore for building and civil engineering contracting. The system’s effectiveness is evaluated by an independent team of qualified professionals within Woh Hup. The company has been successful in creating values from its certified system through its strong quality culture within the workforce as our construction teams are trained to understand and apply the stringent quality control guidelines based on CONQUAS 21 and Quality Mark (QM) requirements which are evident in our consistently high CONQUAS scores in addition to a number of BCA Construction Excellence Awards received since its launch in 1986.

Research and Development

The company works closely with local and international universities as well as research organisations to undertake research and development projects, translating findings into improvements for the construction process. Most recent projects include the examination of the effects of moisture on marble tiles, application of plasters, productivity measurement and forecasting software.

Security

Each jobsite site is fenced and protected around the clock by a team of security personnel who controls access to personnel, vehicular movement and materials conveyance and storage at access and exit points. Grounds are patrolled and routine checks carried out to deter pilferage.

Training

At Woh Hup, we believe that our employees are the most valuable assets. In line with our human resource philosophy to employ suitably skilled and qualified personnel and to identify and provide relevant training to reinforce the competency levels of the workforce, we are one of the few Singaporean contractors who offer training, both in-house and external, to all employees and the Company successfully obtained People Developer certification in May 2006 – a mark of distinction for the Company’s dedication to systematically develop our staff to the fullest potential to meet with the ever-changing business environment.

Every year, it has been actively supporting many charitable organisations and events as well as the Arts.
